Lansdowne, Ontario - June 2, 2010

The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands recently mailed tax arrears notices to residents as part of its ongoing obligation to collect taxes owing to the municipality. A concern was raised on the part of a limited number of residents when they received their notice. Township staff swiftly reviewed each case and discovered their tax payments were in fact current. To ensure full accountability to its residents, the Township engaged an external consultant to perform a review of tax payments made by residents. In every case where the Township became aware of an irregularity, the necessary corrections were made. The results of the external review have been provided to the Ontario Provincial Police for further investigation.
