There are currently no restrictions on open air burning; however permits are required for all burning. If you have a valid burn permit please call 1-800-285-0774 and follow the instructions.

Township News     September 2010

Information Items
• TLTI Municipal Office – New Location: We look forward to serving you at our new location, 1233 Prince St, Lansdowne, ON. We are open Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays) 9:00am to 4:30pm. Dial 613-659-2415 to access all departments, including Administration, Planning, Building, Recreation, Public Works and Fire Station #1. An automated attendant will provide instructions on how to reach the desired department or staff.
• Open House at the TLTI Municipal Building: Saturday September 25, 2010 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. Opening Ceremony at 11:15am followed by a BBQ. All are welcome to attend.
• TLTI Municipal Election: October 25, 2010. Check the TLTI website for more information and dates pertaining to nominations, and for voting procedures.
Lansdowne Farmers’ MarketLansdowne Fairgrounds: 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Closing date is Friday, October 15.
Public Works Projects for Summer 2010:
Hutchison Bridge Replacement – CNR – project began in August, and is on schedule. Completion date is December, 2010.
• Waste Site Amnesty Cards: can be purchased year round and can be used anytime throughout the year that they are purchased.
 
Upcoming Events
The Leeds & the Thousand Islands Archives: Lyndhurst Turkey Fair on September 18th, 2010. Come experience the history of Lyndhurst and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands through display and film!
LTI Historical Society: Monday September 20, 7:30pm at the Lansdowne Community Building – Bill Patterson will speak on Limestone and Lilacs, the history of Pittsburg Township.  All welcome.
TLTI Heritage Committee: September 7, 2010 at 7:00pm in the Meeting Room, Lyndhurst Library.
CyberZone Video Dance: September 25 at Lansdowne Community Building, 7:00pm. Ages 8-14, $10 at the door.
“Rocktoberfest”: Oct 8-10, 2010. The Rockport Development Group is hosting this year’s Annual Canadian Dry Stone Wall Festival at Landon's Bay on Thanksgiving Weekend.  For more information go to: http://www.dswa.ca/event/rockport-ontario-dry-stone-wall-workshop

TLTI Library News
New Lego Club! Watch for further details on our website or leave your name for Lisa at your local branch or lisa@ltipl.net if you are interested. Registrations will be limited. We would also greatly appreciate Lego donations! 
New on your Library shelves! We have added a few municipal publications in time for the upcoming election, including: Municipal Election Law 2010, Good Guide to Municipal Governance, Run & Win, How to Campaign for Municipal Elected Office, Ontario’s Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Ontario’s Municipal Act 2010. In most cases we have a circulating and reference copy.
Lansdowne Harvest Day: Saturday September 11, at the Lansdowne Fairgrounds. We will be there with a Library make and take activity for children. Please drop-by to see us!
Turkey Fair Book Sale: Saturday September 18, 9am – 4pm at the Lyndhurst Branch. Great deals on gently used books, magazines and audio-visual items!
Conversational French Group: A casual approach to learning French. Please call the Lansdowne Library 613-659-3885. Wednesday mornings at 10:45am in the Lansdowne Branch. All welcome!
• Family Movie Nights: Free. Popcorn and drinks available for 50¢ each.

• Toddler Time: Designed for children from ages 0-6, but everyone is welcome. A parent-child program with singing, stories, music, dancing and snacks designed to enrich children’s experiences while providing a social setting for parents and caregivers. The program is free although donations are welcome. Please bring a child’s cup for juice.

Bookworms Book Club:Tuesday, September 28, 6:30pm at the Escott Library. A parent/child book club for children ages 8 to 12 and their caregiver. We will be selecting the titles for the fall and winter.
• Adult Book Club:Thursday September 16, at 7:30pm at the Lansdowne Branch. Share your interpretation of a book. This month we'll be discussing The Bishop’s Man by Linden MacIntyre. Everyone welcome!

New!! Overdrive - Download digital audiobooks anytime and then transfer to your portable device! Go to www.ltipl.net, then “What’s New” page to access Overdrive. You will need your library card and PIN.
Free one-on-one computer, internet and e-mail lessons are available at all branches. Drop in or call ahead to reserve a time. We have free wireless access at all branches. Just bring in your laptop and ask library staff for the guest password.
New!! Ancestry database free for in-library use. This online database allows library users to start exploring their family trees by simply typing in a surname.
• Card Making Workshop with Angie Parkins: Exciting and interesting techniques, as well as some old favourites. $10 fee. Please contact lisa@ltipl.net or mention to staff at the branch circulation areas for information and preregistration.

Boater’s Exam: Need to take your exam? We have high speed and the library staff members are registered as supervisors. Please call ahead to reserve a time.
