Leeds and the Thousand Islands' COVID-19 Preparedness Update

March 13, 2020, Lansdowne, ON Important Information regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) 

 

(LANSDOWNE) - The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is taking precautions regarding the developing situation with coronavirus (COVID-19). 

 

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, The Township office will remain open; however, it is requested that you do not attend the office building if you are displaying any possible symptoms of COVID-19. Staff are available by phone and email for anyone who requires assistance.

 

Also, effective Monday, March 16th, all Township recreational programming, facility rentals and events will be suspended until April 5th, 2020.

 

Interim property tax payments are due March 20th, 2020 and utility bills are due March 31st, 2020. Please note that there are several payment options available including online, through telephone banking, at most financial institutions or you can mail a cheque to the Township office. Please see our website for more information www.leeds1000islands.ca. If you’re unable to use one of the available payment options, and are not able to attend the municipal office to make payment due to health concerns, please contact the Township at 613-659-2415 to advise of your late payment.

 

Weekly Planning and Building Drop in Sessions are cancelled until April 5th, 2020.  During this time inquiries can be sent to staff by email or telephone for staff review.

 

“Public and employee health and safety are our number one priority.  We are being pro-active towards reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community during this outbreak” said Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke.

 

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit states the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 continues to be low in this region. In order to reduce the spread of germs including the flu and COVID-19 it is recommended that you: 

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just cleaned your hands
  • Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand
  • If possible, stay home if you are sick
  • Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres
