Building and Sewage System Permit Information

The Township Building Department reviews septic/sewage system permits and issue permits for sewage systems up to the flow rate of 10,000L/D. This includes all septic systems on a given property.

Sewage System Application Forms

Class 1 -  A chemical toilet, an incinerating toilet, a recirculating toilet, a self-contained portable toilet and all forms of privy including a portable privy, an earth pit privy, a pail privy, a privy vault and a composting toilet system. A sewage system permit is not required for these systems, however confirmation that the required separation distances under the Ontario Building Code and the Zoning By-Law is required. Please submit a detailed plot plan demonstrating the proposed location of the system to the Building Division for review prior to construction or installation. Approval from other agencies may be required depending on the location.

Class 2  Application Form  – A class 2 sewage system can only be used for the treatment and disposal of greywater (non-human body waste) i.e., kitchen sink wastes, bathtubs, washing machines, etc. This type of system is only adequate to treat small amounts of greywater (less than 1000 litres per day) for premises such as cottages and hunt camps, etc.

Class 4  Application Form – A sewage system is used to service single-family dwellings, multiple units, and commercial premises is Class 4. It is typically composed of a two-compartment septic tank and a leaching bed. The septic tank collects the raw sewage and helps in settling and digestion. The liquids then flow out to the tile bed where they are treated as they pass through the soil.

Class 5  Application Form – a system which requires or uses a holding tank for the retention of hauled sewage at the site where it is produced prior to its collection by a licensed hauled sewage contractor.

Applying for a Sewage System Permit 

A sewage system application may be submitted at the Township Office or Online.

Online: When the submission form and required documents are received online, you will be advised of the administration fee and provided a link to make the online payment.  Payment can be made by cash, cheque or debit at the Office, or by credit/debit online through a dedicated third-party link (service fee will apply).

Application Process Steps:
