Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service
The Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Service is committed to providing quality fire protection in a safe, yet fast and efficient way to all residents of the Township.
For all emergencies, please dial 9-1-1- first and provide the operator with your civic number (blue sign at the end of your driveway) along with your street name, your name and type of emergency.
If you call for fire assistance the first on-scene may be firefighters from neighbouring municipalities. We have automatic and mutual aid agreements with:
Kingston Fire & Rescue
Gananoque Fire Department
Rideau Lakes Fire Department
Front of Yonge Fire Department
Leeds 1000 Islands Fire Services is currently comprised of a full-time Fire Chief, a Fire Prevention Officer and an Administrative Coordinator, and volunteer, paid-on-call District Chief, Station Captains, Lieutenants and 90 Firefighters.
The department responds to approximately 375 emergency calls each year.
Fire protection is provided by four stations.
Do you know what a green flashing light on a vehicle means?
When the call for help comes in, our volunteers may be at their regular job, at the beach with family or sleeping in the middle of the night. They drop what they are doing and immediately respond to the fire station in their private vehicle. The flashing green light is used only as an identifier to the drivers of other vehicles so that they may give up their right-of-way and allow the firefighter to get to the station unimpeded.
If you see a flashing green light in the Township of Leeds and Thousand Islands, please pullover.
Every second counts in an emergency!
