Private Road Grants

The Private Road Grant Program assists eligible Road Associations with capital improvements and maintenance costs for the roads in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands that are not municipally owned or maintained.

The Private Road Grant Program has two streams:

• Capital Improvements:  The objective of this stream is to improve access for emergency service vehicles, safety and drainage. Funding assistance is not retroactive and applies to applications received for work completed in the year for which it is intended.
  • Applications are accepted each year until the first Friday in June.  Due date for the next application period is June 6, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.  Funds will be disbursed upon inspection of completed work.  Late applications will not be accepted.
    
    
• Maintenance Activities:  This stream is intended to assist eligible private road associations with operating and maintenance costs.  Expenses may include, but are not limited to, roadside brushing, grading, snow removal, dust control. 
  • Applications are accepted until October 31 each year.  

Private Road Associations are required to determine which type of grant to pursue depending on the type of work they want to accomplish.  Grants are calculated on a per kilometer basis and based on the approved annual budget.  Private Road Associations may reapply each year for the grant.
