The Private Road Grant Program assists Road Associations with capital improvements and maintenance costs for the roads in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands that are not municipally owned or maintained, but private roads.
The Private Road Grant Programs has two granting streams:
- Capital Improvements: The objective of this program is to improve access for emergency vehicles on exiting private roads. Funding assistance is not retroactive and applies to applications received for work completed in the year for which it is intended.
- Application are accepted, once a year, by June 6, 2025.
- Maintenance Activities: This stream is intended to assist eligible private road associations with operating and maintenance costs. Expenses may include, but are not limited to, roadside brushing, grading, snow removal, dust control.
- Applications are accepted by October 31 each year. Funds will be awarded the following spring for successful applicants.
Only Private Road Associations can apply for the grants. Private Road Associations are required to determine which type of grant to pursue depending on the type of work they want to accomplish. Grants are calculated on a per kilometer basis and based on the annual budget approved. Private Road Associations must reapply each year for the grant.
