Summer Dock-to-Door Fire Pump Program Wraps Up

On Saturday, August 29, Leeds and the Thousand Islands Fire Services hosted their final Dock-to-Door Fire Pump Clinic of the summer, wrapping up another successful season of fire safety education for our waterfront and island communities.

This summer, Leeds and the Thousand Islands Fire Services partnered with the Thousand Islands Association (TIA) to deliver three hands-on fire pump clinics. Clinics were hosted by residents on Troughton Island and Juniper Island, as well as at the Government Dock in Ivy Lea.

Approximately 75 residents attended the clinics and received hands-on instruction on the safe operation and maintenance of portable fire pumps used for property protection. Firefighters also provided important fire prevention information, including tips for keeping waterfront properties fire smart, Ontario's smoke and carbon monoxide alarm requirements, open-air burning and burn permits, and how to effectively call for help during an emergency at a remote or water-access-only property.

The Dock-to-Door program is an important opportunity for our firefighters to connect directly with residents in the communities we serve. With approximately 5,000 residential dwelling units throughout the Township, including many seasonal properties and cottages, fire prevention and emergency preparedness are especially important in our waterfront communities.

We would like to thank the Thousand Islands Association, the participating island communities, and everyone who attended a clinic this summer for helping make the program a success.
