TLTI Awards Youth Bursaries

June 3, 2026, Lansdowne, ON – The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands had the privilege of awarding three bursaries to local youth at the June 2nd Committee of the Whole meeting.

The Township prides itself on recognizing young people for their successes and supporting their future goals through the Youth Bursary Program.

Once again, we had several outstanding bursary applicants who showcased their academic achievements, volunteer work, leadership skills, and involvement in extracurricular activities. As a result, selecting the top three recipients was challenging. The three chosen recipients will each receive honoraria of $1,000, $600, and $400 to support their post-secondary education.

The top placed applicant is Macey Grier.  Macey is a student at Gananoque District Secondary School who will be attending College to study Dental Hygiene.  The grant will go towards her stay in residence.  When asked how she hopes to use her education and skills to give back to the community, she stated, “I would like to host oral hygiene info sessions at local elementary schools”.

The second placed applicant is Asia McBride Johnston.  Asia is a student at St. Mary Catholic Highschool who will be attending University to study Medicine.  The grant will go towards her tuition.  When asked how she hopes to use her education and skills to give back to her community, she stated, “I hope to set up practice in TLTI once I graduate”.

The third placed applicant is Mackenze Swann.  Mackenzie is a student at Gananoque Secondary School who will be attending University to study Psychology.  When asked how she hopes to use her education and skills to give back to her community, she stated, “I hope to help children and youth overcome adversity”.

On behalf of Council, I wish to congratulate Macey, Asia and Mackenzie on being bursary recipients and look forward to what the future holds”.
