July 16, 2026 – Council Celebrates Volunteers at TLTI Volunteer Gala
(Lansdowne) – The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands (TLTI) proudly celebrated the contributions of Committee Members during a special Volunteer Recognition Gala, attended by Council, staff and Committee Members, titled “Volunteers Grow Our Community” on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The event recognized the commitment and service of volunteers who have served over the past four years from the following Committees and Groups:
- Committee of Adjustment
- Municipal Heritage Committee
- Leeds and the Thousand Islands Public Library Board
- Partnership for Economic Enhancement and Revitalization
Councillor Mabee and the Town of Gananoque Town Crier welcomed guests to the event with a cry which reflected the rich history of volunteerism and highlighted the significant impact volunteers have on communities. The presentation also shared statistics demonstrating the tremendous economic and social value volunteers contribute, while emphasizing the personal benefits of volunteering, including building connections, developing skills, and creating a stronger sense of belonging.
Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke thanked every volunteer for their dedication and acknowledged the remarkable longevity of several members who have served the Township for many years. "Our Township is fortunate to have residents who are willing to share their time, passion, and expertise in service to others," said Mayor Smith- Gatcke. "Your commitment helps Council make informed decisions and strengthens our community. We sincerely thank each of you."
As a symbol of appreciation, Councillors handed out a small red maple tree to each volunteer to plant. The tree represents the lasting impact volunteers have on the Township, with roots that strengthen the community today and branches that will continue to grow for future generations.
The Township extends its sincere gratitude to every volunteer who serves on its committees, boards, and working groups. Their dedication plays an important role in building a vibrant, connected, and welcoming community.
