June 4, 2025 – Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Donates Proceeds from Touch A Truck Event to Local Food Banks
Lansdowne - The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands is proud to announce the donation of $900, as well as collected food items to, two local food banks following the Township’s popular Touch-a-Truck event, held recently.
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, representatives from the Township presented cheques to R.O.L.L. Aid Food Bank and the Gananoque and Area Food Bank, sharing the proceeds raised during the community BBQ at the event. All funds collected from the BBQ, along with a quantity of non-perishable food items donated by staff and attendees, were equally distributed between the two organizations.
"The Touch-a-Truck event not only brought the community together for a fun and educational experience, it also gave the Township an opportunity to support our local food banks in a meaningful way. I wish to thank the Township Public Works, Fire Service and Administration staff who worked so hard to organize such a wonderful event. I also would like to thank the Town of Gananoque’s Public Works and Fire Department, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville’s Public Works and Paramedics Service and the O.P.P Leeds Detachment for once again joined the Township’s Public Works and Fire Service departments in participating in the event” said Mayor Corrina Smith-Gatcke. “Council and staff are grateful to everyone who attended, donated, and contributed to the success of this initiative.”
The Touch-a-Truck event, held annually as part of Public Works Week, offers residents of all ages a chance to explore and learn about the vehicles and equipment used by the Public Works staff Public Works and first responder staff are on hand during the event to answer questions and show off the vehicles and other equipment they used every day. This year’s event featured hands-on displays, take home activity bags, children’s TLTI branded safety vests, and a BBQ, with all proceeds directed toward supporting local food security efforts.
