Update on Recent Road Maintenance Activities

Posted on Wednesday March 20, 2019

The Township’s Public Works Department has been taking full advantage of the relatively dry conditions, sun and daytime temperatures in an effort to stay ahead of the inevitable ruts, potholes and washboarding that develops on our loosetop roadways this time of year.  Again today, both motor graders and both truck-mounted drags have been deployed to cut and level granular surfaces throughout the Township.

Please be aware that we will be unable to cut to full depth with the graders until the frost leaves the ground and we have dry enough conditions and a clear forecast.

Staff have also been working to steam culverts throughout the Township to keep the runoff flowing and have been monitoring our drainage ‘trouble spots’.  As time permits, they have been patching hard surface roadways as well.

Please assist us in passing along the message that we all have a role to play when it comes to extending the effectiveness of our interim grading activities.  Motorists should drive at a reasonable speed given the roadway conditions and avoid strong acceleration, deceleration or rapid changes in direction on gravel roadways.

Telephone inquiries or requests for service from the public (especially related to blocked/frozen culverts, major roadway heaving, settlement or surface failures) should be directed to the Township’s receptionist (613-659-2415) who will ensure that they are directed to the appropriate Public Work’s staff.
