April 17, 2020, Lansdowne, ON Provincial State of Emergency extended to May 12, Brockville COVID-19 Assessment Centre establishes “self-present” testing model, Municipal service update

(LANSDOWNE) – On April 14, 2020 the Province of Ontario extended the COVID-19 State of Emergency until May 12, 2020.  As of April 16, 2020, the Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit has reported a total of 244 cases of COVID-19 in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark.

The Brockville COVID-19 Assessment Centre, located at 100 Magedoma Boulevard, has established a new “self-present” model that will begin on Friday, April 17. The assessment centre is open from 10am to 5:30pm, 7 days a week.  Appointments or referrals for the Centre are no longer required and people can come to the building to be assessed for testing. If getting to the centre is an issue, call the Health Unit and discuss your transportation needs.

“It is important that individuals with COVID-19 are identified early to reduce the risk of spreading the infection to others.” says Dr. Paula Stewart, Medical Officer of Health for the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is strongly encouraging that the following people be assessed at the Centre:

  • Essential workers (person working directly with the public)
  • Healthcare workers or a household member of a healthcare worker
  • Pregnant individuals who are in their third trimester
  • Returning travellers to Canada
  • Close contacts of a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 (live with, provided care for, or spent extensive time with)

The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands will be extending the closure of municipal facilities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 until May 12, 2020 to be consistent with the Provincial directive.  Staff continue to be available to assist residents by phone and email.  At this time all Committee meetings are cancelled and Council will continue to meet as needed to advance the business of the Township.

Residents are reminded of the following:

  • All non-essential travel should be restricted
  • A burn ban is in effect for the Township
  • Township waste sites remain open
  • Construction activity is restricted to essential construction as identified by the Province
  • Only businesses providing essential services should be continuing to operate.
