The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands extends date for Tax and Utility Payments and waives requirement for Waste labels

March 24, 2020, Lansdowne, ON The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands extends date for Tax and Utility Payments and waives requirement for Waste labels.

 

The Township recognizes that some of our residents and businesses are experiencing financial impacts due to COVID-19.  To assist our residents and businesses and to reduce social contact the Mayor and Council are taking the following actions:

   
Property Tax and Utility Payments

  • The Township has extended the due date for the 2020 interim property taxes by 60 days- revised due date May 19, 2020.
  • Lansdowne water/wastewater utility bills are being mailed this week and the due date has been extended 60 days- revised due date June 1, 2020.
    • There are several payment options available including online, through telephone banking, at most financial institutions or mail a cheque to the Township office.

    • If you are unable to use one of the available payment options, please contact the Township at 613-659-2415.

Waste Sites & Waste Labels

  • The Township has waived the requirement for waste labels for household waste until May 31, 2020.  There is a 4-bag limit per household per visit.
  • Waste sites remain open regularly scheduled hours.
  • Household Clean up Cards (formerly Amnesty cards) and Construction Waste Tickets are available at Lyndhurst Home Hardware and Lansdowne Freshmart at the usual price. 

Mayor Corinna Smith-Gatcke comments, “This is a challenging and uncertain time and we want to do what we can to assist our residents and businesses. Thank you to those who have already paid their taxes.  The Township continues to review ways to address the needs of our community and will  provide media and website updates with any new information we have”. 

The Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Emergency Control Group will continue to meet regularly to review and update information regarding COVID-19. The Township remains committed to monitoring the ongoing situation and will update the public accordingly.
