From the Ground Up…

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, reduced staff, and frozen or reduced budgets, the Operations department and Public Works division are successfully wrapping up annual spring activities! Earlier this week, some summer maintenance projects in roads, parks, and facilities got off the ground!

The annual road stabilization program is substantially complete. With a few loose top roads still to address, almost all have received an application of a liquid stabilizer, often referred to as dust suppressant. The Township crew sends a shout out to our supply partners who, when faced with similar restrictions and limitations, managed to deliver and apply the product for our residents.

The surface treatment program has commenced with crews and contractors working on Cliffe Road, Haig Road, and Kyes Road. This maintenance program extends the life of our ‘tar and chip’ roads. Residents along Chisamore Point and Larue Mills Road will see crews working throughout the summer as roads are prepped for a double surface treatment and hard surface conversion.

Our roadside mowing program began mid-June. With over 660 kilometers of shoulders to address our crew will be out and about all summer! Please give them a friendly wave especially during these hot days!

A reminder to motorists to drive at a reasonable speed given the roadway conditions and avoid strong acceleration, deceleration or rapid changes in direction on loose top roadways. Please also be considerate of our flag persons and workers as they perform their duties.

The Township has 7 day-use parks for residents to enjoy some wide-open green space! During the pandemic, we are asking for additional consideration. Without a full complement of summer students to assist with grass mowing, trimming, and waste removal, our parks need you to take what you bring, pick up after your dog, and refrain from touching hard surfaces such as picnic tables and benches. Play structures remain closed until further notice.

Let’s do our part to stop the spread of the Corona Virus. Remember to social distance, wear a mask when social distancing is not possible, and use your hand sanitizer regularly.

If you have a question or a service request, please contact our Township Receptionist at 613-659-2415 ext. 205 or submit your request electronically from our website.
