From the Ground Up…

Finally, summer has arrived! The Operations department is capitalizing on the warmer days but still battling mother nature when she wants to ‘reign’ down on us! Despite a wetter season than normal, crews and contractors are on track for roads, parks and facilities construction and maintenance.

Crews will be moving onto Sweet’s Corner’s Road, between Highways 15 and 33, in the next few weeks to start the pavement rehabilitation program. In preparation for this, culvert replacement has taken place and the next phase involves a technique called tight-blading followed by microsurfacing to restore the integrity of the surface. Motorists can expect periodic delays.

Attention St Lawrence River Users… we need your input! What do you think about the posted speed limits on the St. Lawrence River? Our survey will expire July 11th so complete the survey today!

Landowners within the current watershed of the Bierman Municipal Drain have been notified of an on-site meeting with the Drainage Engineer on July 18th at 10 a.m. on Black Church Road, 300 metres south of County Rd 42. This meeting will allow landowners to ask questions and discuss improvement details.

Beginning in August, crews will be moving onto Mountain Street to prepare for a bridge replacement. The concrete bridge structure will be replaced with double corrugated steel arch pipes. Mountain Street will be closed at the bridge for the duration of the construction period. When completed, motorists will enjoy widened road surfaces over the structure along with new guide rail installations. Watch our website for the dates of the road closure.

Hazardous Waste Day is August 17th at 2714 Outlet Road from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit our Household Hazardous Waste page to learn about acceptable items. For regular household garbage remember to 'bag and tag' and don't forget it's a great time of year for your annual clean up card, just $30.

The seasonal road stabilization program is substantially complete. Throughout the season, motorists are reminded to drive at reasonable speeds on gravel roadways.

Facility Service Disruptions and Closures:

  • Pelow Road will be closed July 22 – July 25 for bridge replacement
  • The Lansdowne Standpipe Refurbishment project is scheduled for completion mid-July. The Splash Pad at Jerry Park remains closed until the standpipe is back in service.

Question of the Month!

Q. When will the grass on the side of the road be cut?

A. Our crew mows 760 kilometres of roadside growth and as you can imagine, this takes time. When you see one of our two roadside mowers, please slow down and give drivers room to maneuver safely.
